The very first introduction to food for a person is the one they taste at home. Be it an aloo parantha with generous topping of ghee and achar on the side, a serving of freshly steamed idlis with coconut chutney, or in this mother-son duo’s case, the Parsi food they grew up on.
Food For Soul
It happened one day, when Kermeen and Neville Bose found themselves at a loss for words when asked where someone could find good ol’ Parsi food in the city. This confusion and the humble will to give the people what they want led to Malido Café, in the heart of South Mumbai, Kala Ghoda. The name itself has been borrowed from a traditional sweet offered in fire temples, a nod to the cafe’s authentic Parsi soul.
Walking into Malido feels less like entering a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone’s home. A quick bite at the cafe turns into a full-fledged meal soon, with authentic Parsi offerings you can’t quite resist.
With salads, soups, and sandwiches made from homemade bread and a sweet collection of house-made mustards to premium chocolates like chocolate almond rocks, hand-rolled truffles, salted caramel bonbons, and pistachio bonbons, there is something for everyone at Malido Café.
Culture Meets Community
But Malido isn’t just about food. It’s about culture, community, and conversation. In the spirit of Kala Ghoda’s vibrant art scene, the café regularly hosts curated events. ‘There and Back Again’ spotlights singer-songwriters, storytellers, and musicians, offering an intimate platform for emerging and independent artists and ‘Vinyl Thursdays with Soundrise’ celebrates the art of analogue music. Your weekend and after office plans are sorted, if you are in the neighbourhood and looking for a place to be at.
New Bar In Town
All this and no bar scene? Absolutely impossible, and the owners agree. In 2025, Malido expanded to launch Malido Apéro, a bar featuring signature cocktails that had the classic Parsi flavours. The bar has soon become a natural extension of the cafe, bringing communities together over authentic Parsi cuisine, refreshing drinks, and a vibe you can’t quite find anywhere else.
You could be popping in for a quiet coffee, but find yourself staying back for a chocolate truffle, or ending your day with a Parsi-inspired cocktail. Malido is where you feel the city’s soul.
