You might wonder what a new rooftop bar is doing in the city right in the middle of Mumbai’s monsoon season. I thought the same until I visited NOX at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake. Sure, watching the sunset from a rooftop is breathtaking, but have you ever sipped on a drink with a view of rain-kissed clouds rolling above a tranquil lake? That’s exactly the kind of mood NOX offers.
Located on the 36th floor of the hotel’s new wing, NOX greets you with energy from the moment you find the elevators, set to a playlist of upbeat tracks that hint at what’s to come. Named after the Roman goddess of night (Nox in Latin, Nyx in Greek), her portrait welcomes you on the elevator doors as you ascend. And once you arrive, the city fades away, and the skyline, music, and ambience take over.
The Space
Spread across a sprawling 9,800 sq. ft., NOX is designed to match every mood. Whether you’re looking for a cosy date-night alcove, a lively table with views, or a private dining experience, there’s a spot here for everyone. The venue is divided into multiple zones—Roma, a plush private dining room whose design transports you to Italy; Poise, the stylish central space; Broadway, which faces the open kitchen for you to catch all the action; BasQ in the Glory, perfect for lake views; The Cornerstone, ideal for city views; The Vault, which features two PDRs that can be merged into one; and finally the highlight, The Obervatory, the open-air deck, where you’ll soon be able to gaze through telescopes to spot stars and planets post-monsoon.
The soundtrack here builds through the evening, progressing from mellow house beats to upbeat, remixed pop bangers that make you want to get up and groove. And if you visit NOX for dinner, look forward to this fun ritual at exactly 10:36 p.m., the bar puts on a little light show, just enough sparkle to shift the mood and keep the party going.
The Bar
Curated by Harsh Prajapati, the bar menu borrows inspiration from NOX’s location. It’s split into two sections: Above the Sky and Beyond the Lake, which include innovative concoctions to suit every palate. Sip on playful creations like the whisky-based Capella, the smoky sake-and-wine Maru, or the zesty Procyon with pisco and Aperol. For those who like a twist on the familiar, the Beyond the Classics section reimagines the classics. Martini & Beyond features Jägermeister and sea salt, whereas Picante & Beyond uses jalapeño gin with agave for a kick. If you're in a celebratory mood, go for the signature shots—Whisper or Romance.
The Food
With the kitchen led by Chef Niyaz Mansuri, NOX offers a blend of European and Mediterranean flavours, all elevated with thoughtful plating and bold seasoning. Start light with NOX’s House Salad, made with cherry wood-smoked mixed lettuce, brie cheese, figs, and caramelised walnuts. The Original Hummus with warm pita is comfort in a bowl, while the Batata Harra, a potato chop stuffed with goat feta and served with spicy harissa, is the ideal bar snack. Seafood lovers should try the chargrilled Rubiyan (prawn kebabs on the chargrill) and Cerelestial Prawns, crusted in multigrain cereal and served with fermented butter and salted egg yolk.
From the mains, I decided to mix things up with Baked Meaux Brie (whole baked melted Brie with dehydrated fruits and glazed vine ripe tomatoes), Bianca Pizza (brocollini, San Marzano tomato, ricotta and sweet basil on a thin crust), and Cottage Pie (a meat-free twist served with rich soy Bolognese, cheese fondue and heirloom baby carrots). But it was the slow-cooked, deeply comforting Lamb Tagine served with aromatic rice that won me over.
End on a sweet note with the playful Lemune, a citrusy dessert with lemon jelly and mint-chocolate, or the rich Sago Pudding, served with honeycomb candy and banana-toffee phyllo.
