Soon after, Kim Kardashian mentioned she’d been incorporating it into her diet for years, giving it a stamp of long-term celebrity approval. And when Hailey Bieber joined the movement by launching a sea moss–powered smoothie at Erewhon, it was official: sea moss had become a certifiedIt Girl’ staple.

There’s a reason why sea moss has plenty of takers ATM. We’re in the midst of a wellness renaissance where ancient traditions like Ayurvedic water therapy and eating in tune with natural rhythms are making a major comeback. Sea moss fits perfectly into this trend: a nutrient-dense powerhouse that supports multiple aspects of your health, all in one simple, clean ingredient.

She points out that sea moss contains 92 of the 102 minerals our bodies require, including essentials like iodine, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and zinc. 

You’ll also find B vitamins and iron in the mix, which may explain why some people claim to feel more energetic and focused after taking it. “It’s also high in fibre, which can help you feel fuller for longer, which is great if you’re working on weight management alongside healthy habits,” she adds. But a heads-up: the fibre can sometimes cause bloating or discomfort for people with sensitive stomachs.

Look for wildcrafted sea moss that has been tested for heavy metals and other contaminants.” That’s why understanding the source and quality of your sea moss is crucial; where it comes from and how it’s processed can make all the difference.  “And, like with any supplement, moderation is key, and quality is paramount. When you choose good-quality sea moss and use it thoughtfully, it can be a powerful, nourishing addition to your daily routine,” adds Vinoshini.

Sea moss acts as a gentle prebiotic, supporting healthy gut bacteria, and as we know, a healthy gut often shows up as healthy skin.”

But it’s not just about glowing from within. The marine powerhouse is proving to be a standout ingredient in skincare routines, too.

“It can be a great addition to your wellness routine, if it suits your body,” says Dr. Niketa Sonavane. “It’s not a miracle fix, but when used mindfully and in moderation, it can support overall health and glowing skin.” Vinoshini echoes this, but with a gentle reminder, “Always consult your doctor before adding sea moss to your diet, especially if you’re pregnant, on medication, or managing thyroid concerns. Your body’s response is key.”

Our verdict? Sea moss is promising, but it’s not a miracle in a jar. With its rich mineral profile and potential to support gut, immune, and thyroid health, it earns a spot in the modern wellness lineup. There’s still limited scientific research, so think of it as a supplement and not a solution.
