kitchen appliances

Shopping for kitchen appliances toes the line between frustration and fun. It is fun to peruse through different products, dream about how it could change your life, the meals you could make, and at the same time, the abundance of choices, overwhelming features, and nauseating price tags can make your head spin.

But purchasing kitchen appliances is unavoidable. And while we cannot quite go shopping for you, we can help with buyer’s remorse. So, without any further ado, here are the top eight mistakes people make when buying kitchen appliances.

1. Buying On A Whim

If you buy on a whim, your odds are slim. Unlike everything else you can buy, kitchen appliances are always a definite hit or miss. And more often than not, a miss. So, the next time you find yourself reaching to buy something on an impulse, take a step back, do a little research, and then come back and ask yourself if you really want it.

2. Your Friends & Their Kitchens

Just because your friends own it does not mean you have to. And just because it works for them, it may not necessarily work for you. A family friend once mentioned that she bought a particular washing machine because her cousin had it, and now, she finds herself stirring her clothes in a pot.

3. Doom Scroll Shopping

They say that no good decisions are made at 2 AM, and they would be right. Because buying a lip gloss on the basis of an influencer's review is one thing, but an air fryer is a whole other thing. Because that lip gloss can be blended, but that air-fryer will stare at your face until one of you blinks. And it will not blink.

4. Online Reviews

Just because a product has glowing reviews in a blog or a magazine does not mean that you have to add it to your cart. There goes my job. But seriously, don’t do it! One glowing review in the grand scheme of things means less than nothing.

5. Next-Best Shopping

If there's a product you've had your heart set on, get that one. Don’t let a glowing review or a trending list talk you into settling for something else. The thing you’ve been dreaming about will always feel better than the one that just looked good this week.

6. Not Building On The Basics

Buying kitchen appliances is akin to building a house of cards. If your base is wonky, then the palace will crumble. So, before you go getting the niche appliances, make sure you have sturdy basics, because most often than not, you’ll reach for the cast ironpan and whisks before the yogurt maker or pasta machine.

7. Forgetting Your Kitchen Needs

Elaborating on the previous point, basics are important, but the definition of basics differs from one kitchen to another. So, the next time you find yourself hitting add to cart, take a step back and ask yourself if the appliance will make your life easier, or if it will sit and gather dust because you will not use it more than once.

8. Not Physically Checking The Product

If you can Photoshop your face, you best believe that the same can be done for a microwave. Because would you buy foundation from a brand without having any idea of what the product feels like or what your shade match is? Then why should you buy an appliance without seeing and testing it with your own eyes?

So, there you have it! Now, say good-bye to buyer’s remorse.
