Summer is tiptoeing closer (although the British weather hasn't quite got the memo), so if you’re yet to book a sunny holiday with your friends or S.O, then we urge you to add Mykonos to the top of your list. From its sandy beaches and crystal-clear water to its charming white-washed villages and warm climate, Mykonos is the perfect choice for sun-seekers on the search for a Greek island that provides ample opportunities to party, chill, and get stuck into a book by a pool with an ouzo lemonade in hand.

The best bit is that the UK has direct flights to Mykonos, so you can be from the door to sun lounger in less than four hours. And that's not to mention the bounty of chic accommodation on offer, as well as the endless choice of tavernas to dine at.

In recent years, the Greek island has become a sought-after hotspot for celebrities, with A-listers such as Beyoncé, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Kim Kardashian spotted holidaying in Mykonos. So, if you're hoping to rub shoulders with the stars, this is the place to be.

Last year, Greece experienced a dramatic growth in tourism, with visitor numbers increasing by 22.4%, as discovered by Travel And Tour World. Even more so, the country welcomed 41,600,000 tourists in 2024, with forecasts suggesting even higher numbers for this year. When selecting which area to visit first, Mykonos Town has been described as ‘one of the best-preserved historic towns in Greece’ by Time Out, making it the perfect location to tick off your 2025 travel list.

Where To Stay In Mykonos

Anandes Hotel

The Anandes Hotel is located a short walk from the centre of Mykonos Town and around 10 minutes from the local airport, making it the perfect choice for holidaymakers prioritising ease this summer.

Choose from a room with a private balcony, overlooking the island’s Cycladic architecture and the Aegean Sea, or opt for one of the ground-floor suites with its very own pool, perfect for cooling off from the hot weather, which averages a high of 28°C in the summer months.

From the natural stone tables and embossed pine wood to the linen fabrics and rattan lamps, the hotel's aesthetic balances luxury and simplicity with style and offers the perfect interiors inspiration for your next renovation.

After a long night’s sleep, we suggest heading to the hotel's main terrace for breakfast and checking out the ginormous poolside sun loungers and the spa in the afternoon. Try out the sauna, Hammam or book into a treatment room if you’re in need of a relaxing massage.

The Best Restaurants To Visit

La Petite Maison

If you’re on the search for a restaurant with panoramic views over Mykonos Town, look no further than La Petite Maison (LPM). Our top tip is to make your reservation time coincide with the sunset, which is around 8.30 PM in summer. On arrival, we recommend sipping on a Tomatini, which is described as the ‘essence of LPM in a martini glass’ on the drinks menu before tucking into the French Riviera-inspired food menu. For starters, order the prawns with olive oil and lemon juice, and the fresh sea bass ceviche. For the main course, try the marinated lamb cutlets and the moreish gnocchi with cherry tomatoes, paired with a glass of LPM's own rosé made by a family-run winery in Provence. When it comes to dessert, the French toast with fresh berries and mascarpone chantilly cream is the star of the show.

Beefbar

If you’re in the mood for flame-grilled steak, then head over to the buzzy yet luxury Beefbar, a beachside restaurant which is a 10-minute drive from Mykonos Town. You can pick from a selection of Japanese Wagyu or enjoy filet-frites with their signature truffle butter sauce while looking over the bay. There are plenty of options for pescatarians and vegetarians in your group too. Why not try the umami Caesar salad, steamed ginger sea bream, or the truffle pizza? Wash it all down with a cocktail from the drinks menu; opt for the Bellissimo if you like a sweet kick, or the Tropical Negroni for something more bitter.

Spilia

Tucked away in a hidden cave on the coastline, you’ll find Spilia (which literally translates to 'cave' in Greek), a Mediterranean-Myconian restaurant serving up some of the best seafood and fresh fish on the island. Before you can tuck into some bottarga linguine or grilled octopus, you’ll need to climb around the cave on a wooden walkway, so avoid wearing heels if you can (a pair of ballet flats would be a wiser option, trust us). With a 30-year history, the venue has become a hotspot among locals and visitors and we can see why – the mix of delicious wine, great music and an even better view creates a very incomparable dining experience.

What To Do During The Day

Agia Anna Beach

Agia Anna Beach, located next to Spilia, is perfect for combining a beach day out with lunch or dinner at the restaurant. Rent a sun lounger and enjoy the sunshine at this buzzy beach club by the water in the coastal bay. Our top tip? Bring your own beach towel, take a walk along the beach and enjoy the sea and picturesque views for free if your budget doesn't stretch as far.

Catamaran Cruise

Why not spend the day exploring the southern coast of Mykonos on a sailing catamaran? This 5-hour semi-private cruise, hosted by Nikolaos on Airbnb, holds up to 25 guests per trip, so you’ll have the chance to meet some new faces. From diving into crystal-clear water to spotting local sealife while snorkelling to testing out your kayaking skills, you’ll be pleasantly exhausted and very ready for the three-course meal that’s prepared by the Yacht Chef. Don’t forget, if you’re heading out on a windy day, be prepared to hold onto your belongings as hats and towels can be easily swept away.

If you have some spare time in the afternoon, take a walk down to Mykonos Town, which is called Chora by the locals. Get lost in the labyrinth of narrow winding streets, lined with classic Greek whitewashed buildings. You can have a nosy in some of the designer shops, including Dior, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, or take a walk along the seafront and admire the iconic windmills, which are no longer in use but continue to be an enduring symbol of Mykonos' past.

Cooking Class

A visit to Mykonos will undoubtedly leave you craving the island's Mediterranean cuisine. So, why not take a traditional cookery class before you leave? This workshop, hosted by Mykonian Spiti on GetYourGuide, will give you the skills you need to recreate the bold flavours after your trip ends. Step inside the local family home and spend the next 6 hours picking organic vegetables from the garden, preparing dishes including stuffed peppers and beef orzo, and finally, savour the fruits of your labour with a well-earned meal accompanied by unlimited wine.
