The Return Of OPA Kipos Brings You A Grecian Dream, Right Here In Mumbai

Where cobblestoned floors, starry ceilings, and unforgettable flavours come together, all complete with plate smashing and poetic cocktails.

If you’ve spent any amount of time exploring Mumbai’s luxury dining landscape, chances are you remember OPA. The high-energy Greek fine-dining from Dubai left a distinct impression during its earlier stint in the city. Now, after a brief hiatus, it’s back, reimagined as OPA Kipos, and it’s louder, bolder, and quite possibly more beautiful than before.

Revived by Aspect Hospitality (the team behind Akina, Brunch & Cake, and Radio Bar), the restaurant sets its sights on creating not just a meal, but a memory. Nestled in a sprawling 6,500 sq. ft space in Worli, OPA Kipos is a lush, immersive homage to the Mediterranean, filtered through a distinctly theatrical lens. But behind the spectacle, lies a clear culinary and design philosophy: create joy, and do it beautifully.

An Island In The City

Step through the entrance garden and you’ll understand what OPA Kipos is aiming for: not just a nod to Greece, but a fully transportive experience. You’re led down a Greek-style staircase into a space that feels like a modern Mykonos dream. Bougainvillaea-draped ceilings, whitewashed walls, deep blue shutters, and hand-trowelled lime plaster set the tone.

There’s something cinematic about the setting. During the day, it’s sun-dappled and airy. But at night, the magic truly kicks in, the ceiling lights up with an imitation of the Mediterranean night sky, and the cobblestoned floor, inspired by Greek village pathways, completes the illusion. It’s stunning. There’s no other word for it.

The layout, designed by Dubai-based Creative Clinic, flows like a well-planned narrative, moving from a main dining and performance hall to a tucked-away VIP lounge and a dramatic bar counter. It doesn’t try to hide its ambition; this is a restaurant meant to dazzle.

Small Plates, Big Statements

There’s always a risk when restaurants look this good: will the food live up to the aesthetic? At OPA Kipos, the answer is yes. Helmed by Executive Chef Timothy Newton, the menu is modern Greek with clear Mediterranean influences, and a focus on bright, bold, shareable flavours.

To start, I was served the hummus, not exactly a curveball, but this one was exceptional. Creamy, balanced, and deeply flavourful, it’s the kind of dish that surprises you by just how good it is. Paired with warm homemade pita, it sets the tone for a meal that is deeply rooted in comfort.

The mezze platter is generous and ideal for the table, but the salads stand out for their freshness and flair. The OPA Salad, in particular, feels like summer in a bowl, crisp, juicy, and layered with feta, herbs, and just the right hit of citrus. For something playful, the Greek Street Corn Salad offers spice and texture in equal measure.

Mains range from classics like Moussaka Lamb and Whole Seabass, to the dramatic Flaming Lobster Linguine, flambéed tableside. Vegetarians and Jains are more than accommodated, dishes like the Cauliflower Steak and Hartofagos Linguine aren’t afterthoughts but flavour-packed creations in their own right. The food shows promise, yet I am excited to see how they will progress the vegetarian menu and make it more suited to the Indian palate.

Myth Meets Mixology

The bar is another centrepiece of the OPA Kipos experience, and rightly so. The cocktail menu is part storytelling, part alchemy, with drinks designed to echo Greek mythology and Mediterranean flavour profiles.

Highlights include the Olive Odyssey, which uses olive oil fat-washed vodka, and Poseidon’s Mist, a gin-based refresher that’s as aromatic as it is light. The Dionysus’ Smoke ups the drama with theatrical presentation and a smoky whisky base, while the Baklava Dreams cocktail, a sweet blend inspired by the iconic dessert, ends things on a honeyed high. For those who prefer their drinks classic, the menu offers refined versions of the usual suspects, but the house specials are where the creativity shines.

The ELLE Gourmet Verdict

There’s one moment at OPA Kipos that truly captures what the restaurant is all about, and it doesn’t involve food or drinks. As the night progresses and the music builds, the restaurant erupts into a celebratory ritual of plate smashing, a nod to Greek tradition. A first for me, I quite enjoyed breaking many plates and participating in the festivities around me. The vibe is just that exciting! What could be pure theatrics becomes something more meaningful, as the shattered pieces are repurposed through local NGO partnerships into art, décor, and sustainable building materials. It’s a celebration with conscience, and it gives the revelry unexpected depth.

To put it simply, yes, it’s beautiful. Yes, it’s dramatic. And yes, you will not forget this Grecian dream after a visit.
