Bengaluru has always had a taste for the global, but lately the city has been in the mood for something spicier, more layered, and unmistakably Latin. Enter Una Hacienda, a rooftop sanctuary that conjures the warmth of a Latin American estate house. Think leafy conservatories, vintage interiors, and that golden-hour glow which makes every evening feel like a celebration, while transporting diners far beyond the clichés of tacos and tequila.
Conceived by acclaimed bar maestro Arijit Bose for hospitality firm Investorant, Una Hacienda is no mere themed outpost. It is a cultural homage, a love letter, even, to the soulful warmth of Latin American hospitality. For Bose, it harks back to a more intimate Bengaluru, a time when nightlife wasn’t about sprawling bars or closing hours, but about evenings in friends’ homes. Nights fuelled by conversation, music, and late-night snacks are reborn here with a Latin twist: convivial, welcoming, and always a touch indulgent.
At the heart of the experience is Barra Arriba, which literally translates to ‘the bar upstairs’ in Spanish, a breezy rooftop conservatory with cocktails as exuberant as its views.
Each drink tells a layered story: the Hacienda Paloma blends tequila, mezcal, and pink peppercorn soda with citrus sparkle; the Three Citrus Pisco Sour bursts with grapefruit and sweet lime; while the playful Tomatini turns cherry tomato and balsamic into a liquid appetiser.
Mezcal, pisco, and Latin rums flow liberally, with each glass acting as a passport further south. Classics are reimagined with flair, from tequila-forward concoctions like La Bamba to Nikkei-inspired infusions that nod to Peru’s multicultural palate.
Bose and his team avoid gimmickry; instead, their cocktails feel lived-in, steeped in travel, terroir, and timeless references.
The food, curated by Chef Jason Hudanish of 42 Consultation, continues the journey across borders. The Japanese–Peruvian dialogue of tiraditos and ceviches – clean, citrusy, almost architectural in flavour – sits alongside heartier comforts such as pozole, the rich Mexican broth, or the indulgent Cubano sandwich.
Smaller plates shine with inventiveness: Camarones Saltado (smoked prawns with udon and miso butter) nods to Nikkei influences, while Tuna Foie layers foie gras over smoked yellowfin with crisp toastadito. Even desserts carry stories, from the purple corn mochi (Mochi de Maíz Morado) with cream and sea salt, to a silken Flan de Durazno.
Yet Una Hacienda is not about ticking off regional checklists. It is about the atmosphere, that unmistakable Latin spirit where food, drink, and company converge. The music is rhythmic yet never intrusive, the lighting is mellow and flattering, and the air is perfumed with woodsmoke, citrus, and chatter. One moment you might be sipping a Pisco Fizz under Lima’s skies; the next, biting into lamb chops with Malbec that summon Mendoza, or swirling a mezcal cocktail that tastes of Oaxaca, all under Bengaluru’s breezy night sky.
For Bose, the project carries memory and meaning. “It’s not a brand; it’s someone’s house, with quirks, travels, and stories. We wanted people to feel like they’ve stepped into a home, one that loves ceviche in Puerto Rico, Malbec in Mexico, and mezcal in Peru, and wants to share it all with friends.”
ELLE Gourmet’s Verdict:
In a city that thrives on the new but yearns for the authentic, Una Hacienda feels like both discovery and nostalgia. It doesn’t simply serve food and drink; it curates experiences layered with history, migration, and culture. A reminder that Latin America is not only tacos and margaritas (though you’ll find both done exceptionally well here), but a kaleidoscope of flavours, moods, and stories.
So raise a glass, arriba, abajo, al centro, pa’ dentro. Bengaluru has a new house in the sky, and everyone is invited.
