The recently concluded Wimbledon 2025 had its fair share of thrilling moments. With Italy's Jannik Sinner and Poland's Iga Świątek making history as the first champions from their respective countries, it felt like the dawn of a new tennis era. But the real main characters of this season? A rather strange pairing that caught the internet's attention: pasta and strawberries.

Just before her big win, the No.8 seed Świątek left fans bewildered after confessing her craving for strawberries and yoghurt slathered on…pasta. Don’t make me repeat it.

While strawberries and cream find their true home at Wimbledon, the cameo of pasta on the plate has taken over the Internet. There are around two million views on Świątek's video clip posted on the official Wimbledon Instagram account, and it has launched a series of contrasting comments. Some taken by surprise have questioned the legitimacy of culinary dos and don’ts, others have restored belief in this Polish dish, also known as makaron z truskawkami.

“What’s the big deal? Everybody should eat that,” stated Świątek while justifying her childhood favourite. It may seem like a bizarre dish to some, but strawberries and yoghurt pasta is a beloved staple in Polish summers. Also because Polish strawberries > British strawberries

Plot Twist: I Might Actually Try This

This got me thinking about the conventional hesitation I’ve built up against the amalgamation of sweet and savoury dishes. Yet, as I write this, I will be placing an order for a box of strawberries, somewhere amidst finding the perfect balance for my taste buds. This dish, otherwise, possesses a high nutritional value – strawberries bringing in the fibres, yoghurt contributing to the daily protein intake and pasta helping with carbs. Let's hope I have the ability to like this dish, for the love of food trends, and obviously, Iga Świątek.
